    Lewis Hamilton spent 12 successful seasons with Mercedes, building strong relationships with his engineer Bono and team principal Toto Wolff. However, what led him to consider leaving Mercedes and explore other options? Likely, it comes down to a difference in vision. Hamilton is likely nearing the final stages of his illustrious career, and after so many years of dominance, he would have expected the car to be in peak form. Unfortunately, both the W14 and W15 failed to live up to championship expectations. Despite numerous changes made by Mercedes, the car still struggled to find grip and faced issues with excessive bouncing, leaving Hamilton unwilling to risk waiting for improvement and potentially sacrificing his championship dreams.

    But why Ferrari? Beyond their undeniable legacy as the most successful team in Formula 1 history, I believe there were several factors behind Hamilton’s decision to consider a move to the Scuderia. First, Ferrari has a longstanding tradition of partnering with legendary, highly skilled drivers and delivering championship-winning cars, a combination that would naturally attract Hamilton. Second, Ferrari’s progress over the past couple of seasons has been more significant compared to Mercedes’ developments, making them an appealing option. Lastly, the arrival of Fred Vasseur as team principal played a crucial role in Hamilton’s decision. While some might overlook this factor, I believe Vasseur was the missing piece that convinced Hamilton to make the switch. For those who don’t know, Fred and Hamilton have a long history, having worked together and won a championship in GP2. Fred was one of the first team principals to utilize Hamilton’s full potential, helping to unleash the racing talent we see today.

The hope now is that Ferrari has a solid plan in place and isn’t simply "winging it," especially with so much at stake. After all, it’s been 17 years since Ferrari last claimed an F1 title. If they want to return to their former glory, they need to be fighting for pole positions and wins in every race this season.

Take his 2024 Silverstone performance, for example—despite struggling with the car’s overall performance, he still managed to deliver impressive results on several occasions. Hamilton’s ability to perform under pressure and his consistent results over the years make him a reliable contender to win races this season, potentially bringing Ferrari to the top. His winner’s mentality and leadership qualities could also play a pivotal role in helping Charles Leclerc reach his full potential, creating a formidable driving duo for Ferrari.

    While he has excelled in cars that strike a balance between aero efficiency, tire management, and cornering precision, the SF-25 could provide certain advantages that better suit his driving style. The SF-25’s superior front-end grip would enable him to approach corners with greater precision and confidence. Additionally, the car’s balanced aero and chassis setup would help Hamilton maintain consistency throughout a race, optimizing tire performance and giving him an edge in longer, tire-sensitive races. A driver like Hamilton, who thrives on strategy, would also benefit from the SF-25’s effective cooling system, which could help preserve engine performance better than the Mercedes W16. Red Bull, on the other hand, is renowned for its impeccable consistency in strategy and decision-making. They know how to maximize tire performance, ensuring their car is finely tuned for both tire conservation and optimal performance.

    Ferrari, while showing moments of brilliance with their tire strategy—such as knowing when to change tires and how to optimize tire compounds—has struggled with consistency, particularly under pressure. They’ve often found themselves in situations where strategic decisions seemed rushed or not fully thought out, especially in the heat of battle.

    As the 2025 season draws nearer, it’s clear that strategy will play a pivotal role in the championship race. Ferrari has the tools, talent, and potential to compete at the highest level, but it’s the execution on race day that will ultimately decide their fate.
